I had water damage to my basement when Long Island had the massive rainfall at the end of August 2024. My oil tank line snapped and there was damage to my boiler (including hot water heater) and oil tank. After a month without hot water, we received a lot of estimates and different proposals, but ultimately, we chose Stanley Gelber and Sons.
The reason I chose Stan Gelber was the “salesperson” Michael Connor. Michael isn’t a salesperson, he is an expert in HVAC, I should say the leading HVAC expert in the NY area! Changing from an oil heating system is a major change and I had alot of questions and did a lot of research. Michael always answered his phone and gave technical knowledge whenever I asked. He outworked the competition and made educated suggestions based on my HVAC system and family needs. If it wasn't for Michael, I may have chosen another company. His insight, expertise, and reliability were the key factors in choosing Gelber.
Knowing the condition of my Boiler, and also the age of my Central Air Conditioning system we decided together that a Heat Pump system was the most efficient way to go. I could have saved a few dollars in the short term on a straight replacement of the oil burner and tank, but after taking everything into consideration the heat pump system (heat pump unit, heat pump hot water heater) and a mini split in the basement would be the best investment for our house.
Michael helped with the financing aspect. The financing was very reasonable, and we scheduled the installation. My attic was a mess, and I wound up putting down some new flooring and threw out some old stuff to make the job easier for the Gelber crew. The coordination of the installation went super smooth.It included the removal of the oil tank with oil inside, the oil burner, and scheduling the electrician. I do most of my own work (cutting lawn, carpentry, electric, painting, etc.) and really don’t like a lot of people coming into the home. That changed quickly! The Stan Gelber crew was amazing. They totally transformed my home! The crew led by Oscar was clean, neat, and friendly. They put drop cloths everywhere, and always vacuumed the house upon leaving. Oscar and the guys went above and beyond what was in the contract because they wanted the system to work correctly. I have a long ranch, with a huge attic and the positioning and planning they did has made it go from a junk attic to a major selling feature if I do ever sell. I think Stan Gelber increased the value of my home by 100K, no joke. I can’t thank them enough, Nobody works like this anymore!
The new unit outside (Bosch condenser) is the best in the industry. The Rheem heat pump hot water heater is so efficient. And the Lennox AC/Heat mini split unit in the basement pumps heat so quickly! All of Michael’s suggestions paid off. When the job was complete, I figured the process was over, it wasn’t. Michael came back to inspect and has also helped tremendously in working with PSEG to make sure that I receive my full home energy rebate. And it’s a nice rebate!!
Stanley Gelber and Sons is amazing. I can’t thank them enough. I don’t do reviews, but the job they did from start to finish has changed my whole home and made it super-efficient. They are the best!
